Emergency Disaster
& Street Outreach
Emergency Disaster Services (EDS)
The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) in the Orillia and surrounding areas we have a number of volunteers, divided into Emergency Response Teams providing 24-hour coverage with most emergency response deployments. They show the love of Christ by providing victims, survivors and emergency personnel with immediate, on-scene assistance with food, water, shelter, clothing, service referrals, and emotional and spiritual care – comfort in a time of crisis.
The Street Outreach Ministry utilizes the EDS teams to identify and assess the needs of those who are experiencing homelessness and at-risk individuals on the streets of Orillia. Street Outreach Teams are deployed every Friday evening in the Orillia city center. Using The Salvation Army’s Community Response Unit (canteen truck), free dinner, snacks and beverages are offered to anyone in the area, as well as heat and cold supplies if required. In 2023, over 9,400 hot meals were served, with 1,710 volunteer hours contributed to this vital ministry.
Street Outreach Ministry
The EDS and Street Outreach programs aim to be a transforming influence in our community by restoring hope and dignity in those who are struggling and seek to fulfill the call of our Lord according to Matthew 25:35,36.
